International Friendship Fair

■2011 Report

The 2011 International Friendship Fair was held on May 3rd and 4th at the Minuma Green Center and Citizens Forest. Although it rained on the 3rd, we were fortunate to have good weather on the 4th, and over 75,000 visitors joined in the festivities.
Stage performances included traditional music and dance by Russian, Mexican, Indonesian, and other groups making for a colorful and joyous atmosphere. During the performance by the Central Asian dance group, onlookers enjoyed the spectacle as some audience members joined in the dance.
As with previous years, the fair featured booths from Germany, Turkey, Kenya, Mexico, Thailand and many other countries (27 in all) as well as 57 different organizations, offering visitors a chance to enjoy delicious foods and unique crafts from around the world as well as learn about the activities of the various international organizations. The International Exchange Tent hosted various activities for children including a stamp rally and face painting by foreign exchange students along with free rice crispy snacks. The activities provided children with opportunities to have fun while learning about international exchange.
This year, once again, with planning committee members at the center and including our many junior high, high school, and university student volunteers, we had a total of over 165 volunteer staff whose cooperation made our fair the great success that it was.
