There are volunteers in various fields registered with the association taking active part in international exchange and cooperation. The association cordially welcomes you to register as a volunteer for the association.
There are about 350 volunteer host families registered with the association. They are deepening international friendship by hosting delegation members from sister/friendship cities and students attending the Japan Foundation Japanese Language Institute. At least one room is requested to be provided exclusively to the guest while he or she stays at your house. Often, even after the guest returns to his/her country, the friendship continues with their host families.
Foreign language expertise is not necessary to be a volunteer host.
Presently, there are more than 500 volunteers interpreting and translating through SAGA in various languages including English, Chinese, Spanish, Korean, German, French, Portuguese, Italian, Indonesian, Tagalog, Malaysian, Thai, Bengali, Greek, Bikol, Hindi and Arabian. Among other things, they provide assistance at exchange activities with visiting delegations from sister/friendship cities, support foreign residents of the city, and translate information booklets on daily life.
Volunteers are available if you require assistance involving translation or interpretation. To request assistance, please contact the association well in advance and inform SAGA of the date and place of the event for which translation/interpretation is needed, the content to be translated/interpreted and the difficulty level of that content. Informing SAGA of the content difficulty level is particularly important as the volunteers' proficiencies vary.
