Further information on volunteering
■Host Family Program
There are about 350 volunteer host families registered with the association. They are deepening international friendship by hosting delegation members from sister/friendship cities and students attending the Japan Foundation Japanese Language Institute. Host families are asked to provide at least one room to the guest for their own exclusive use during his or her stay. Often, even after the guests return to their home countries, the friendship continues with their host families. Foreign language expertise is not necessary to be a volunteer host.

■Volunteer Interpreters / Translators
Presently, SAGA has over 500 volunteers doing interpretation and translation work in various languages including English, Chinese, Spanish, Korean, German, French, Portuguese, Italian, Indonesian, Tagalog, Malaysian, Thai, Bengali, Greek, Bikol, Hindi and Arabic. Among other things, they provide assistance at exchange activities with visiting delegations from sister/friendship cities, support foreign residents of the city, and translate information booklets on daily life.
Volunteers are available if you require assistance involving translation or interpretation. To request assistance, please contact the association well in advance and inform SAGA of the date and place of the event for which translation/interpretation is needed, the content to be translated/interpreted and the difficulty level of that content. Informing SAGA of the content difficulty level is particularly important as the volunteers' proficiencies vary.
